Impacts of Disturbances on Swamps and Wooded Peatlands (Southern Quebec)

This project aims to quantify the impact of human disturbances such as agriculture, forestry and road construction on the carbon cycle and hydrology in the wetlands and wooded peatlands of southern Quebec.
Research objectives :
1. Quantify the responses of carbon fluxes to disturbances: measure the fluxes of CO₂ and CH₄ from vegetation and soils in wooded wetlands
2. Assess the responses of peat soils and microorganisms: collect peat/soil cores and roots, and analyze microbial communities to assess how disturbances alter underground carbon storage and processes.
3. Assess hydrological changes: install hydrological recorders to monitor groundwater level variability and link changes to carbon fluxes and the export of dissolved organic carbon.
