Carbon Dynamics in Arctic Peatlands of Nunavik (Quebec)

This project aims to understand the spatial variability of carbon storage and fluxes in permafrost peatlands near Kangiqsualujjuaq and Salluit (Nunavik), and to extrapolate the results to the landscape scale.

Research objectives : :

1. Characterize the microtopographic variability of carbon fluxes: measure the exchanges of CO₂ and CH₄ across the characteristics of the permafrost landscape.

2. Quantify carbon stocks in peat and vegetation: collect peat cores and aboveground biomass to estimate carbon storage.

3. Translate data to a regional scale: integrate field data with drone surveys and spatial mapping to produce regional carbon balances.
